Synopsis - Divider

“His eyes settled on her…piercing green embers of flame that revealed the ferocity of his Melody's Key by Dallas Coryell.jpgpain and passion, yet still shrouded him under veils of ever deepening mystery that made every ounce of her ache to unravel him.”

Tegan Lockwood’s dreams were dead, sacrificed on the noble altar of duty before they ever had a chance to live. Her entire existence was disappearing into the abyss of apathy as she labored her days away keeping her family’s struggling business alive. There would be no emotion, no color, no beauty in her life. That is, until a mysterious visitor begins to draw her out of the darkness of her past towards something that will challenge the boundaries of her world, and unlock the most deeply held secrets of her heart.

ModernTeen's Review - Divider

A successful love story has to have the right beat to make it work, and somehow Melody’s Key has it!

This novel is narrated through third point view but mostly focused on the main girl, Tegan Lockwood, a talented British songwriter girl who works on her family’s business, Lockwood Holiday.

Alongside with her family, they accept different groups of vacationers in their manor on holidays and summer. They serve them and make sure that they’d have a great stay in the manor.

It was pretty tough for Tegan, to give up her dreams to help her parents in paying bills but somehow, she felt relieved everytime she touches the key—- held by a leather string hanging from her neck down her chest— which opens a chest full of love letters from the tragic love story of her great-grand-mother and it also revealed their family secrets.

Just the right timing, a special and famous American guest, Mason—- “famous pretty face, label made artist, with no real musical talent, played no instrument, had only half-decent voice at best and wrote none of his own songs”, just what Tegan assumed—- but he turns out he’s not— is staying in the manor.

I swear they just got me smiling uncontrollably while reading their scenes. Too many feels, I must say. I love the whole Lockwood family. And of course— Simon! Okay, most of all, I love Mason much more *imitates Ryleigh’s squeals*

The love letters from Jonathon for Violet were so intense and extremely heart warming. That would be the best part for me, when reading the love letters. I just happened to remember all the days in my High School when handwriten letters from friends were all I’ve been receiving on my birthdays. Since I’ve started reading this, I looked for those letters and reminisce those happy days.

However, I find the part where Mason, the famous pop singer was sent to a place to act like a normal person then there’s a girl who would help him, that part is kinda comparable to Meg Cabot’s Teen Idol. But the whole story differs from one another so it’s worth reading. Over all, this is a must read for everyone who wants a refreshing read this season. For those who loves music like me, this is surely a must try.
